Movie Blog: Novocaine

Welcome back movie club members! I was planning on blogging about Novocain this week, but it just wasn’t enough to blog about. So, I’ll talk about a few things that I watched last week instead.

First, for my theater trip I saw Novocain starring Jack Quaid. This… was not great. Relatively entertaining, I like Jack Quaid and Jacob Batalon who had good chemistry. But man, this was weird. The premise is a guy who can’t feel pain is essentially cosplaying John Wick to save his kidnapped girlfriend. It was brutally graphic and had some cool fight scenes, but this was just not very good. SPOILER, his girlfriend was in on the heist, but they reveal that like halfway through the movie for no reason. He still gets back with her when she’s in jail afterwards lol. My score is 6.5/10, there are worse ways to spend two hours.

I am wrapping up my 2024 release watches, last week I saw Moana 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.  I also don’t have much to add for these. I actually enjoyed both movies, but neither was special. Moana 2 was exactly what you’d expect out of a 2024 Disney sequel. Not a bad movie, it looked nice, and it was a solid story. It just lacked all of the charm and heart that the original one had. They’re going to be making these for the next 30 years instead of focusing on original projects. My score for Moana 2 is 7.5/10.

I liked Sonic the Hedgehog 3 about the same as I did Moana 2. I loved the Sonic games on Sega growing up, and loved the first movie they released back in 2019. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was a bit of a letdown, and the third installment definitely improves upon that one. James Marsden and Ben Schwartz do a great job, and for whatever reason Jim Carey only wants to play Dr. Robotnik these days but does a good job with it. All in all, this was an easy watch that I’m sure kids enjoyed. My score for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is 7.5/10.

This wasn’t a great movie blog, next week we’ll see what I watch. No new releases that caught my eye, but Black Bag that released last week is supposed to be good and maybe I’ll go check that one out! As always thanks for reading and we’ll talk next week.
